Hurricane Season
Hurricane season officially runs from June 1st to November 30th. People living in Lee County and on Sanibel and Captiva Islands should be aware of the vulnerability of Southwest Florida to hurricanes and tropical storms. The ultimate safety of our members is the responsibility of each individual member or in the case of shut-ins, the individual and their family member. Each member should become familiar with the protocol for hurricane season preparedness.
Closing of the Church
The church will be CLOSED when a MANDATORY EVACUATION IS ORDERED BY THE CITY OF SANIBEL, and all activities scheduled at the church will be canceled until the CITY has allowed residents to return, all CURFEWS have been lifted, and the church facilities have been inspected and determined to be safe for use.
Alternate Worship Location
Sanibel Community Church has entered into an agreement with Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers. In the event of a mandatory island evacuation or post-hurricane damage to our structures, worship services will be held at their facility on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. This facility will not serve as a shelter during the storm.
This arrangement has made made so the congregation of SCC will know in advance where to meet for worship. Westminster Presbyterian Church is located at 9065 Ligon Court, close to Lexington Country Club. Take Summerlin Road to Willowcrest Way and turn South. Take first left onto Ligon Court.
